What could be so hard about managing a library? A lot, and you simply have to look at the now-topsy-turvy life of Frances O’Brien.

The ever-conservative, dressed-to-fully-cover, somewhat-racist Frances O’Brien has a special task in the community as a librarian. But more than managing the Middleton Interactive Learning Centre, she needs to deal with deeper personal troubles including hiring Christine Grimwood, her former friend and now a certified go-to drug dealer; coping with her troubled marriage with Terry; and now embracing her horrible mother, Pearl, who’s now arrived at her home, battling dementia.

How much can she keep herself together without losing her sanity and giving in to panic disorder?
