Another social history documentary from the crew at Bombora.

Australians are a laconic bunch.  But that doesn’t mean we’re not big communicators.  In fact, in Australia maybe more than any other country, a longing to connect has shaped us as a nation.  Faced with the tyranny of distance, it was communicate or die, and so we took up the challenge.

Most of us don’t realise how important it was to us.  But just ask any Australian what their first phone number was, and watch the memories flow….

The story of how we went from being a bunch of convict misfits and shed inventors to emerge as the most connected culture per capita in the world is the story of building a nation against the odds, and contains all the major technological shifts in communication since the smoke signal.
